Swarthmore College Podcast Guidelines

 
  Follow these guidelines for recording and posting your podcasts. There are three main steps:


1) Recording

Record your audio in MP3 format. The exact steps you take will depend on the hardware and software available to you. Here are some options for users of

You may already have or wish to install one of these programs on your own computer (follow links above for instructions), or you may use one of the pre-configured systems from ITS:
  • iMac recording booth in Underhill Library (equipped with USB microphone headset and GarageBand3)
  • Windows PC in the Media Center in Beardsley 114 (equipped with USB microphone headset and Audacity)

2) Posting your files to a podcast weblog or Swarthmore iTunes U

Once you have created your MP3 files, you will add them to your project weblog (RSS feed) or Swarthmore's iTunes U so the file will be available for download. Instructions for weblog posting. Instructions for posting to iTunes U


3) Listening and subscribing to the podcast channel

To listen the audio recordings, you can download the MP3 files to you computer directly from the project weblog or Swarthmore iTunes U. Open the file in your favorite audio player.

To automatically download files as they become available, subscribe to the podcast weblog channel (feed) in iTunes or other "podcatchers" such as Juice. The files can be listened to on the computer, or automatically transferred to a portable MP3 player such as an iPod, iRiver, Zen or similar device.

To subscribe to the podcast weblog in iTunes, click the chicklet on the weblog home page.
To subscribe to the podcast in Swarthmore iTunes U, login through Blackboard and click the subscribe button.
